    We are starting a webinar series themed: Mwanzo to discuss the various taxes for startups and SMEs. First off, is Minimum Tax. The Finance Act 2020 introduced the Minimum Tax provision which came into effect on 1 January 2021 applicable at 1% of gross turnover payable by the 20th day of the Fourth, Sixth, Ninth and Twelve-month.

    We have invited a representative from KRA to delve deeper into the specific details of Minimum Tax.

    Jeddy Ochuodho

    Jeddy Ochuodho is the Manager- Tax Education in the Marketing & Communications Department at Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA). KRA is the government agency mandated by law to assess, collect and account for all tax revenues in the country. The Tax Education Division aims to provide taxpayers with all the information necessary to make them compliant. A passionate educator, Jeddy has in the course of her 17 years work in KRA been part of teams that developed various initiatives to enhance taxpayer awareness. These include the Introduction of Schools Outreach and creation of Tax clubs; introduction of Tax Ambassadors program in universities and other institutions and the roll out of Ushuru mashinani prorammeto take matters taxation to all corners of Kenya. Through these initiatives, a lot of students have been mentored. She supports the revenue departments (Domestic Taxes and Customs & Border Control) to raise awareness of their stakeholders. As part of giving back to her community, she has served on several school boards including Achego Girls and Nyawita Secondary Schools in her local Rangwe home. She is also a long serving deaconess at the Nairobi Central SDA Church. Jeddy holds a Bachelor of Education (Science) degree from Kenyatta University, a Master of Arts degree in Information Studies from the University of Central England in Birmingham (UK) and a Master of Arts in Communication from Daystar University. She has also undertaken trainings in basic Tax Administration and Customs & Border Control from Kenya School of Revenue Administration.

    I have worked in tax law for almost a decade with experience in audit, tax base expansion and now taxpayer services. My experience has given me an in-depth understanding of the Kenyan business arena as it interacts with the tax laws, this experience informs my delivery of the tax law material in a manner that is easy to digest and understand for my audience. I am passionate about making tax laws accessible to Kenyans through training with the aim of enhancing tax compliance of business persons who are at the core of economic growth in Kenya.
